Shopify vs Shopify Plus: Is Time to Upgrade?
Keep your eCommerce store growing
One of Shopify’s best features is their tiered offerings that ensure the plan you’re on is the best fit for your business.
But no business stays in the same place forever. When should you upgrade your plan from a regular Shopify store to a Shopify Plus store? What makes the most sense?
It’s time to ask an expert. Fyresite has worked with a number of eCommerce stores, both on Shopify and Shopify Plus. We hear this question a lot, and here’s the advice we give to make sure you’re making the best choice for your business.

What’s the Difference Between Shopify and Shopify Plus?
When we say a Shopify plan, we’re referring to one of their three tiers: basic, grow, and advanced. For this blog, we’re going to be focusing on the Shopify Advanced plan, since it’s the tier right below Shopify Plus.
Shopify Advanced
Shopify Advanced is the highest non-enterprise tier offered by Shopify. It costs $399/mo when billed monthly or $299/mo when billed yearly. Included in this subscription cost is a variety of features, including 10 inventory locations, 15 staff accounts, and enhanced 24/7 chat support.
Shopify Plus
Shopify Plus is Shopify’s enterprise level plan. It costs $2,300/mo when you commit to a three year term. Shopify Plus includes features available on the lower tiers, as well as exclusive features such as B2B commerce.
The Differences
Shopify Advanced | Shopify Plus | |
Card Processing Rates | Starts at: 2.5% + 30¢ USD online 2.4% + 10¢ USD in person | Competitive rates for high-volume merchants |

When Should I Upgrade My Shopify Store?
Sadly, there’s no magic answer to this question. No business is the same, and neither are their platform needs. But there are a few questions that you should ask yourself about your business to determine if you’re ready to upgrade your Shopify tier.
If you’re wondering if it’s time to upgrade your store to Shopify Plus, ask yourself these questions.
Are My Monthly Sales Above $80,000?
Shopify considers $80,000 in monthly sales to be the magical number when it comes to thinking about upgrading to Plus.
This doesn’t mean that one month of $80,000 dollars sales means you need to upgrade. Some events like Black Friday and Cyber Monday can cause higher than average sales.
If you’re consistently seeing this number, it might be time to start thinking about making the jump.
Do I Want to Explore B2B Selling?
On Shopify, B2B commerce is a Plus only feature. If you’re determined to do B2B, you need to be a Plus merchant to do it on Shopify.
PS: We recommend using Shopify for B2B. Here’s why.
Is My Store Spending More Than $2,300 a Month in Processing Fees?
We understand that the jump from $299/mo to $2,300/mo is a big one. But when you start selling in high volumes, the processing fees you pay on every sale add up quickly.
At a certain point, you’re spending more in those fees than you would by making that jump, and Shopify Plus would actually save you money.
